Next stop on our journey is beautiful Ballina, the home of the big prawn. We arrived at the Big 4 Ballina Headlands Holiday Park and instantly felt at ease and ready for some relaxation and fun. The drive in to the park is along the amazing coastline featuring amazing beaches and picturesque scenery.
The welcome at reception was great. We were greeted by very polite, knowledgeable and sweet staff. We drove around to what we think was the best site of the park. A large corner drive through site with freshly cut grass, concrete slab and a beautiful corner garden. It was very close to the amenities, pool and playground.
This park has great facilities and one of the best we’ve seen for kids!! The kids zone is amazing and all activities are at the front of the park, in close proximity to each other, so they can go crazy for hours! The kids zone boasts an undercover play area, swing set, jumping pillow, huge climbing web, interactive game station and a chalkboard.
The pool area is also great with one of the spas being gas heated all year round. Perfect for mummas like me that like it hot!!
Apart from the incredible kids zone and pool area, this park also has a great camp kitchen, beach volley ball area, outdoor chess set and an indoor kids play area with 2 x play stations, TV room, reading corner, giant connect four and pool table. The facilities at this park make the fun endless.
As we haven’t spent much time in Ballina in the past it was go go go for us. Ballina has a great town centre with a huge variety of shops. Kmart, Big W, Harvey Norman, Coles and Woolworths provide everything you need for a great holiday. Chris was even able to get to the gym a couple of times with a $20 weekly pass at Anytime Fitness which was also located in main street of Ballina.
The beaches are amazing in Ballina. Clean, big swells for the surfers and plenty of sand for the kids. We had beautiful days which allowed for hours in the sun!
THINGS TO DO:
One of the most famous attractions in Ballina and the Lennox Head area is the Macadamia Castle.
The Macadamia Castle has an animal park, putt putt golf, Café that serves their ‘famous’ (and easily the most amazing) pancakes we have ever had, Nut Bar, Fine Food section and the gift shop. It easily provides a full days entertainment, educational experience and fun for the whole family.
This was the first time that we were able to get up close and personal and even pat a crocodile. We were also lucky enough to hand feed some two week old lambs and goats milk from a bottle which was another great experience. We made some incredible memories with our children during this visit.
Entry is $25 for Adults & $15 for children. The Macadamia Castle is open daily from 8am-5pm and has many shows throughout the day including one of ONLY two free flying bird shows. You can call them on (02) 6687 8432 for any further questions you have or to check for entry specials.
We had the most amazing stay at Big 4 Ballina Headlands Holiday resort and highly recommend it to families with and without children. It is incredibly relaxing, well maintained, exceptionally managed and has so many facilities to keep everyone entertained for days or weeks on end. Even on check out, we were given some gorgeous gifts for our family! Chris was tickled pink to say the least! We will definitely be back and look forward to it very much!
